Key Tube Bending Formulas
Bend Allowance (Arc Length)
The bend allowance is the length of tube consumed by the bend itself.
Use the calculator above to see how much tubing gets consumed in a bend.
Setback (Tangent Length)
Setback is the distance from the bend tangent point to the theoretical intersection of the two straight sections. Use the calculator above to see the setback in a bend.
Formula: Setback = CLR × tan(Bend Angle ÷ 2)
Example: 4" CLR, 90° bend = 4 × tan(45°) = 4.0"
Total Tube Length Required
Formula: Total Length = Straight Length A + Bend Allowance + Straight Length B
Add the straight sections on each side of the bend plus the bend allowance to get your total cut length.

Don't Forget Springback
Always account for springback when setting your degree stop. See our Springback Chart for material-specific guidance.
